17 Best Men’s and Women’s Cashmere Sweaters of 2025

This is not an exhaustive list of everything that we tested, just what’s still available.

Women’s

I tried a bunch of decently priced women’s styles from Everlane: The Boxy Crew in Cashmere, the Cashmere Cropped Cardigan, the Cashmere Cropped High-V Sweater, and The Classic V in Cashmere. All of the sweaters felt itchy, with the exception of The Boxy Crew; this one has a cute, slightly cropped boxy fit, and it was softer than the others, but it felt more like a cotton knit than luxe cashmere.

The Gobi $99 Cashmere Hat and Sweater Set (the crewneck comes with a matching beanie) is made from impressively soft, ultrafine Mongolian cashmere. Alas, the ribbing was flimsy, with poor stretch recovery. Compared with our (less expensive) pick from Quince, this sweater has a thinner knit and more surface fluff.

The Italic Emma Cashmere Relaxed Turtleneck sweater is snuggly and well priced (and it used to be one of our picks). We opted not to re-test it for the latest edition of this guide because a PR representative for Italic told us the brand plans to discontinue apparel in 2026.

The pricey Kinross Textured Slouchy Funnel was a disappointment. The seamwork looked sloppy (the seams are sewn rather than linked), and the knit pilled easily. One tester said the style reminded her of “ski long johns.”

We had mixed luck with Naadam’s substantial, low-gauge “luxe” cashmere: The Super Luxe Cashmere V-Neck Sweater is incredibly soft, but it’s also super-fluffy (and therefore very high-maintenance). And I didn’t love the wide, shallow V-neck or the blobby fit. But another tester was impressed with the “style and panache” of the Luxe Cashmere Oversized Turtleneck, which has a slightly cropped length and subtle balloon sleeves.

I tried lots of mid-priced styles from Reformation: the Clara Cashmere Crew Cardigan (adorable and very soft, though the cashmere felt slippery and over-finished); the Jadey Cashmere Oversized V-Neck and the Cove Cashmere Oversized Crew (both nicely designed but with unimpressive quality); the Farren Cashmere Crew Cardigan (a super-cute fitted shape but itchy cashmere); and the Westley Cashmere Polo (soft but flimsy and thin).

The mid-priced Saks Fifth Avenue Collection Cashmere Roundneck Sweater has a slim, flattering cut and a stylish split hem. Sadly, it pilled immediately, and we found a couple of loose threads.

I tried on a number of styles from Uniqlo: the Cashmere Sweater (a crewneck), the Cashmere Sweater Turtleneck, the Cashmere Short Cardigan, and the Cashmere Sweater V-Neck. They are well priced, and I generally liked the easy cuts. Unfortunately, the cashmere is rough, itchy, and thin.

The ultra-lightweight White + Warren Trapeze Cardigan (a long, open-front style) used to be a pick in this guide. We still think it’s a beautifully made sweater, but the cut now feels a little dated. We also tested the brand’s ultra-soft Cashmere Crewneck, which has a charming knitted striped detail down the center back. But considering how expensive it is, we were disappointed in the amount of surface fluff, and the sweater pilled easily.

Men’s

While we love Buck Mason’s California Cashmere Polo, the brand’s California Cashmere Cable Crew didn’t impress us as much. It runs small, and it shed fluff all over one tester.

Everlane’s The Grade-A Cashmere Crew fits well and feels warm, with high-quality reinforced ribbing around the neck and cuffs. Our testers found it slightly itchy, but if you’re not especially sensitive, this is a nice sweater at a reasonable price. (As of this writing, it’s on final sale and stock is limited.)

The Italic Mateo Cashmere Crewneck Sweater is remarkably soft. Unfortunately, it’s also structureless and borderline mushy, and ours arrived with a few sections already pilling. A representative for Italic also told us the company is planning to discontinue apparel in 2026.

We weren’t crazy about a few of the men’s styles from Naadam. One of them was the Lightweight Cashmere Cable Crew Neck Sweater; while it’s featherweight and super-soft, it’s also so delicate that it sprang a hole within days. Another was the Super Fine Cashmere Long Sleeve Crewneck; our tester liked this ultra-fine-knit sweater — until it developed heavy pilling after just a few wears.

The William Lockie Oxton Cashmere Sweater is made by one of the last remaining Scottish cashmere mills, and it’s intended to soften with wear and last a lifetime. The quality is, indeed, excellent. But this sweater’s over-$500 price tag felt steep for a basic crewneck (with a single-ply construction).

Unisex

The Tricot Cashmere Polo is a soft, attractive, and well-made unisex polo with beautiful finishing. But if I didn’t already know that it was made from recycled cashmere, I would have guessed that it was a cotton sweater. Also, since inventory ships from France, customers in the US will pay $52 in duties at checkout.
