This crowd-pleasing pillow is made with luxurious memory foam that is responsive and contours to your head. It’s one of the few options you can try in a store, but you can’t return it.
The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt ProHi Pillow is the highest-quality one-piece foam pillow we tried. Made with the brand’s signature, CertiPUR-US–certified foam, it offers over 6 inches of loft that testers loved. It is also available in a 5-inch height (the ProLo) and a shredded, adjustable version, which we did not test.
It offers the perfect balance of cushion and support. This pillow is made of the special foam Tempur-Pedic is known for, and the quality is apparent. It is dense with a slow rebound time, making it super supportive. It is on the firm side but not hard — your head gently sinks into a soft, foam cradle.
One tester, who uses a CPAP machine at night, found this pillow preferable to shredded options, like the Coop Original Adjustable Pillow. “If my head sinks in too much to my pillow, I can notice it when wearing the CPAP — I like the feeling of my neck being supported, and the Tempur-Pedic provides this,” he said.
It comes in two height options, which you can try in store. The one-piece Tempur-Adapt pillows come in ProHi (6.6 inches tall) and ProLo (5 inches tall). We tested the ProHi, and most testers enjoyed that it was tall and firm enough for comfortable side-sleeping, although one tester found it too high to keep their neck in alignment. The cover is cool and substantial. Testers said this was one of the coolest-feeling pillows they tried. The cover is well made and fits snug to the pillow, though one tester found the seam piping on the edge too pronounced.
It had no odor. Unlike other slab-style pillows we tested, which give off a minor chemical smell, this pillow did not have any smell out of the box.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
It is the most expensive pillow we tried. At roughly $75 more than our other picks, this pillow is the most expensive model we considered for this guide, but the price reflects the quality.
You can’t return it. The Tempur-Adapt ProHi is not only the most expensive pick, but it’s the only one that cannot be returned. You can try it in stores, though, which we recommend, especially given the price. It has a five-year warranty.
The foam is not machine-washable. Though you can wash this pillow’s cover, the foam inside single-piece pillows is typically spot-clean only. However, the pillow’s durable cover, paired with a pillow protector, should help preserve the foam.
