Fake Flowers Are a Perfect Gift. I Said What I Said.
I live with an 84-year-old lady who is very active. We have become very close friends and learn from each other every day (I am 27). She has a wonderful, spacious apartment in a historic building and, as she says, everything she needs. She does not wish to receive any more gifts, but I am searching for a special present for her 85th birthday. She has a wide range of interests, enjoys attending cultural events, and is not particularly fond of sweets. — H.N.
From gifting expert Hannah Morrill:
I’m so glad you two have found each other across the generations! Let’s crack this gifting nut. Since you mention her historic building, could you dig up a photo and commission a portrait of the exterior? A real artist from MyDaVinci will create it quite quickly — no AI — and you get a proof to approve, plus the original. (I have a treasured watercolor of a family cabin.)
I also wonder about an on-demand subscription to the Met Opera, which has a really impressive selection of productions new and old. Or she might like a box of tropical fruit from Miami? Because the ever-changing assortment is so novel — think cacao pod, mamey sapote, jujube, guava — the deliveries work like a mini cultural vacation, too.
