Rolling Knife Sharpeners Look Downright Fun to Use, But Do They Work?

The HORL3 was the only one we’d even consider using ourselves and recommending to others. It had the strongest (and therefore safest) magnet, and although it took some time and elbow grease, it produced a sharp edge from sandpaper dullness.
After that initial sharpening, it produced an edge with quick, one- to two-minute rolls, as promised. So it’s not a terrible option for maintaining knives.
The HORL3 is pricey, though, and due to all of the safety and accessibility concerns mentioned above, we weren’t confident about recommending any rolling sharpener in our guide to knife sharpeners. But we plan to continue using and evaluating the HORL3 for future updates.
