Spooky Season Is Here. These Are the Kids Halloween Pajamas We Love.
In my house, October means more than apple cider, autumn leaves, and pumpkins: It’s also the official commencement of Pajama Season. My daughters, ages 5 and 8, are usually too hot for pajamas in the summertime. But when the temperature starts to drop and the cozy Halloween prints come out of storage, I revel in the cuteness as they gleefully reach for their skeleton- or pumpkin-themed PJs.
After October 31, my attempt to stash away the Halloween pajamas until the following year is usually met with great protestation. And why shouldn’t they enjoy their skeleton and bat jammies until the following June? Many of the makers of our favorite kids pajamas offer PJs with adorable (and spooky) Halloween themes that have the same high quality as their core collection.
Solid-color, long-johns-style pajamas also make great base layers for Halloween costumes. I grew up in Connecticut, and I remember one particularly chilly Halloween when my loving and concerned mother forced me to wear a parka over my princess costume.
I don’t think many people knew about base layers in the ’90s. Now, I insist that my kids integrate warm layers into their costumes, so a super-chilly Halloween night won’t catch them off guard and “ruin everything.” (We recommend a great base-layer option that kids can wear discreetly under a costume, or it can be the costume itself.)
With my daughters’ help, I tested a mountain of nightgowns and long-johns-style pajama sets for our guide to the best kids pajamas. Here are some of our favorite pairs for Halloween and beyond.
