The 9 Best iPhone 17 Cases of 2025
Basic case
The Apple Silicone Case is a grippy case with complete coverage and a microfiber interior. The case fully covers the Camera Control button while still letting you press and swipe as usual. Unfortunately, it’s a magnet for dust and lint, and it costs nearly double the price of our top pick.
The ESR Soft Case with Stand is a silicone-based case with ample coverage and a solid kickstand built into the camera bump, but it doesn’t provide much grip.
Spigen’s Thin Fit case is made primarily of hard plastic, with a TPU border to provide some flexibility for installation and removal. It offers MagSafe support and a cutout for the Camera Control button. Although it’s a nice case, our picks provided better overall coverage for drops.
Spigen’s Liquid Air is an extremely basic TPU case that offers easy access to the Camera Control button. It lacks MagSafe support or any distinguishing features to make it worth your money.
Zagg’s Manhattan Snap and Milan Snap are fine cases that provide sufficient coverage, MagSafe support, and a cutout for the Camera Control button. They simply didn’t stand out against our pick.
Leather case
Moft’s Snap Case Movas is a vegan-leather option with a microfiber interior and an option for lanyard support. Its metal buttons are solid, and it handles scratches better than most leather cases. However, the leather doesn’t feel as nice as that of the Mujjo case.
The Torro Slimline Bumper Case is made entirely of top-grain leather, but it still allows for a comfortable grip. The aluminum buttons feel nice and clicky too, and the inside of the case has a microfiber lining. But it isn’t as protective as other cases we’ve tested, and it isn’t drop-rated. Although it has a camera bumper on the back, its front lip isn’t especially high. It protected our screen from scratches, but the sides of the display cracked slightly after we accidentally dropped the phone on concrete.
Wallet case
Mujjo’s Full Leather Wallet Case is made entirely of leather, along with an aluminum camera bump and clicky aluminum buttons, with a cover for the Camera Control button. The card pocket can fit two cards, but inserting a third makes adding and removing them difficult. We have concerns that the wallet portion will wear out over time due to being leather. Also, this case is available only for the 17 Pro models.
The Smartish Wallet Slayer Vol. 2 is a slimmer version of the company’s Vol. 1 wallet case with ample coverage and protection and a cutout for the Camera Control button. But I had difficulty when adding more than one card to its wallet sleeve, as well as when removing them.
You can also find MagSafe wallet accessories that snap to the back of a MagSafe case. But we tested two options that turned out to be worse than our wallet-case pick. Apple’s FineWoven Wallet with MagSafe has a strong magnet and can comfortably fit two cards at once. But like last year’s FineWoven iPhone cases, it’s made of suede-like microtwill materials that scratch easily and can quickly look worn. The Mujjo Full Leather Magnetic Wallet, which has openings on the bottom and the rear for easily adding and removing cards, can comfortably fit up to three cards. It also has silicone stripes on the rear that are intended for slip resistance, though they didn’t work. The wallet would constantly detach from the iPhone when we added or removed cards.
More-protective cases
Apple replaced its FineWoven iPhone cases with a new TechWoven Case for some members of the iPhone 17 lineup. It feels high-end and premium, and the woven material holds up well against scratches. The anodized aluminum buttons feel nice and clicky too, and the Camera Control button is covered. Thanks to its built-in magnets, you can use it with MagSafe accessories and wireless chargers. While it’s a nice-looking case, it doesn’t offer much to stand out against our top picks — especially at such a high price. In addition, it’s available only for the iPhone 17 Pro models.
Casetify’s Bounce Case has thicker borders, an integrated camera lens covering, a hard-shell backplate, and thick bumpers for corner drop protection, as well as the option to customize it. But it’s expensive, and our protective-case picks cost less than half its price. It’s also not especially easy to store in a bag or pocket.
The OtterBox Commuter and Defender Pro XT provide a considerable amount of protection — along with a substantial amount of bulk. The Commuter combines a TPU case and a hard-plastic shell, and the Defender Pro XT has a glossy rear back. While both cases provide a considerable amount of coverage, they’re expensive compared with our top picks.
The OtterBox Sole Series is a rugged case with grooves built into the sides, a textured back that allows for a secure grip, raised edges on the front and on the camera bump, and a built-in (but removable) lanyard that you can use to carry your iPhone. It also has button covers, including an integrated Camera Control cover, and support for MagSafe. But owners have reported that the case doesn’t align properly with their iPhone 17, causing accidental triggers on the volume rocker and the Camera Control button. We haven’t experienced this issue.
Speck’s Presidio2 Grip with MagSafe does a good job of protecting against drops with ridges along the rear and sides for a better grip, plus a well-placed cutout for the Camera Control button. But it’s hard to justify paying the full retail price of this case when you can pay less than half that for similar protection from Smartish’s Gripzilla.
The UAG Civilian offers a hard-shell rear with TPU sides, along with a slim profile and a lanyard. It protects all of your iPhone’s buttons and has a cutout for the Camera Control button. But its lanyard points are located on the bottom corners of the case, which can expose them to damage and debris.
The UAG Pathfinder is another protective case with a hard-shell exterior, TPU bumpers, tactile buttons, and raised sides along the screen and camera module. It also supports MagSafe accessories. It’s slim and lightweight, especially for a rugged case. But as with the UAG Civilian case, the lanyard anchors are located on the bottom, which can expose the phone to damage. The iPhone 17 case options are also limited in terms of design, as they aren’t available in solid or muted colors; you have only a choice between two prints.
ESR’s HaloLock Cyber Tough Case consists of two pieces: a TPE soft shell and a plastic scratch-resistant hard shell, the latter of which has a built-in MagSafe ring. It offers plenty of protection for both the display and the back of the phone, and the magnets have a strong hold. Although we appreciate that it’s lightweight, its smooth back feels slippery despite the built-in grooves on the sides, so it doesn’t allow for the best grip.
OtterBox’s Symmetry Series comes in a variety of styles, including a leather-like option that the company says is made from cactus. It also has a microfiber lining, MagSafe support, a raised camera bump, and button covers, including one for the Camera Control button. But it’s double the price of our other picks in similar designs, such as the Smartish Gripmunk and the Mujjo Full Leather Case, which provide the same amount of protection.
Clear case
Apple’s Clear Case with MagSafe protects the Camera Control button with a pressure-sensitive, responsive button built into the case that lets you swipe, press, and half-press to control the camera. But it doesn’t offer the best grip, and it leaves the entire port and speaker section exposed. The iPhone 17 Pro versions also have a white square on the back that isn’t aesthetically pleasing.
The ESR Hybrid Case with Stand has a solid kickstand built into its camera bump with a cover for the Camera Control button, but it doesn’t provide the best grip.
The Smartish Gripmunk with MagSafe case in the Clearly Clear color option has a raised camera bumper and thick, frosted edges with textured grips around all of the edges, plus an exposed but accessible cutout for the Camera Control button. However, a previous version of the case turned yellow notably fast, so we have similar concerns about this one.
Speck makes several clear cases, including the Presidio Lux, Presidio Lux Glitter, Presidio Perfect-Clear Grip MagSafe, and Presidio Perfect-Clear MagSafe. We’d recommend Speck’s Grip versions, because the non-Grip versions can be slippery in the hand. The Grip versions, with plastic grips raised along the edges and inverted on the back, offer a different look and feel than any other clear case. We’ve found that the non-Grip versions have a smaller cutout for the Camera Control button, which can make it difficult to reach for people with larger hands.
Spigen’s Ultra Hybrid T MagFit case is a great clear option with MagSafe support. It offers hard-plastic TPU borders along with a raised camera bumper and corners for additional protection. With this case, Spigen covers the action and Camera Control buttons, the latter of which remains responsive to swipes and half-presses, as with Apple’s case. But this case is available only for the iPhone 17 Pro.
The UAG Plyo is another protective clear option with a thicker profile, corner protection, and camera protection, as well as an accessible Camera Control cutout. But the larger MagSafe magnet ring design is polarizing.
The Zagg Crystal Palace is a solid clear case with textured edges, a raised camera bump, an integrated Camera Control cover, and support for MagSafe. Zagg also has a kickstand version if you want a case that allows you to prop the iPhone up. But Spigen’s Ultra Hybrid case is less expensive and offers the same features, and we prefer the extra protection it provides around the plateau for the Pro models. Zagg does offer a Lite version of this case that’s more affordable, but it doesn’t have a Camera Control cover or MagSafe support.
Superthin case
Caudabe’s Veil is our previous superthin pick. It has pebbled dots on the sides for a better grip, a bump to protect your iPhone’s camera lenses, and thin button covers. However, the case is available only for the Pro models of the iPhone 17.
Pitaka’s Ultra-Slim Case is a solid option, but it offers minimal overall protection. Although the iPhone 17 versions have a Camera Control button, the rear shell leaves the rest of the buttons, and the USB-C port, completely exposed. It does have an aluminum camera bump and MagSafe magnets, but it doesn’t give you enough coverage all-around to make this case worth buying.
