Why We Love L.L. Bean Slippers for 2026

I grew up in New England, where L.L.Bean wasn’t a choice — it was a lifestyle. Just like UGGS, these slippers can be worn indoors and outdoors. And nearly everyone I knew — from my high school classmates, who paired them with their uniforms, to the kids I babysat, who wore them with pajamas — had a pair of these classic mocs. In the spirit of nonconformity, I initially refused to jump on the “Bean Bandwagon.”
My tolerance for discomfort in the name of defiance has since waned (thanks, adulthood!), and I’m luckier for it: I adore these slippers, even more than my once-beloved UGG Scuffettes.
My Wicked Good slippers beat my UGGs in nearly every way, but particularly where it matters most — the price (the Wicked Goods are a few bucks less) and actually keeping my icicle feet toasty. And there’s even more to love, like the suede exterior (which doesn’t lose its shape) and the cushy memory-foam footbed (which offers infinitely more support). With a plush shearling lining that would leave even Goldilocks impressed, these slippers fit right out of the box — no breaking in required — and you can tighten the rawhide laces so they stay on your foot without any slippage.
Speaking of slippage, the rubber sole also has better traction than the one on my UGGs. When I’m wearing my Wicked Good slippers, I haven’t found myself careening down wet or icy sidewalks or across floors, but I couldn’t say the same for my UGGs. Perfect for quick trips outside to check the mail, walk your dog, or take out the trash, the Wicked Good slippers also look a bit less like traditional slippers, which is a relief when I glance down at the store and realize I forgot to change my shoes before leaving the house. (This has happened more times than I’d like to admit, but I will say it speaks to their comfort.)
And I’m not alone. After receiving these slippers as a gift from a Wirecutter colleague a few winters ago, our editor-in-chief, Ben Frumin, admitted, “At first, I was a little skeptical. I mean, sure, they’re a Wirecutter pick and thus must be exceptional. But I’m not really a slippers kind of guy.” Until, that is, he learned “how much more outdoor-durable they are than ‘normal’ slippers.” Now, he says, “I wear them several times a week to go out on little errands or sometimes even to walk the kids to school or drive them to various activities.”
Many readers have also sung the praises of the Wicked Goods slippers’ durability, comfort, and longevity. When providing feedback on our moccasin slipper pick, one reader said, “I am on my fourth pair … [and] I have been getting the exact same slippers for at least twenty years (so about an average of 6–7 years each) … They are like cozy marshmallows of joy for my older, tired feet!”
Another reader added, “A highlight of my day is coming home to put them on.”
